When I first saw the price of this TV (999.00) I wondered what was wrong with it. Nothing, as it turns out. I bought it because of the price and the brand. I have a 32 inch LG 1080 flat screen that I have had for 3 1/2 years (you don’t want to know how much it cost). It worked perfectly out of the box and has never had service. That’s a heck of an endorsement these days! One unique thing that sold me on the 47″ LG50 was the height. It is taller than the other flat screens of similar size so you don’t get that extreme horizontal picture. It’s more like watching a movie theater screen ratio. I watched 2 movies in a row yesterday and it was totally hypnotic. So, That’s it, I love it and I’m sure you will too. Got mine at Best Buy and they delivered and set it up for me-no extra charge.

For the longest time I thought a refurbished TV and a used TV were different terms for the same thing. In fact, I thought refurbished was just a half-dollar word for used. I sure am glad someone set me straight. Knowing the difference saved me from my own ignorance.

Full Metal Jacket est un film en plusieurs temps ; pour faire simple, on pourrait le couper en deux parties, une première qui se déroule dans un camp d’entraînement militaire, et la seconde au Vietnam, ces deux parties étant séparées (même si elles sont liées).

J’ai toujours préféré la première partie, que je trouve plus concentrée et réussie, plus marquante. Elle se concentre sur au moins deux thèmes (du moins pour moi).

Il y a d’abord la perte d’identité qui commence directement par la coupe des cheveux. Par la suite, les bleus n’ont plus de prénoms, juste des surnoms. Dallas, Joker, Baleine, Blanche-Neige… Cette perte s’accompagne d’une autre, celle de la personnalité (mais difficile d’en dire plus).

Cette première partie, où Baleine devient le souffre-douleur de l’instructeur, est étouffante. Plus on voit ce film, et plus le harcèlement moral nous interpelle, comme ce plan, où l’instructeur pointe la caméra du doigt en vociférant, que j’ai trouvé très drôle au premier visionnage et qui aujourd’hui me met presque mal à l’aise. C’est ici le deuxième thème ; personne ne sera là pour vous soutenir et vous encourager, la seule voie possible est celle de l’endurcissement et de la violence canalisée.

Ici, il y a déjà un ennemi à combattre ; la faiblesse.

La deuxième partie du film joue sur le mensonge, mensonge dans la presse car la guerre du Vietnam n’est pas populaire, mensonge envers ses camarades pour faire croire qu’on est un dur de dur. Jusqu’au moment où l’on se retrouve dans le merdier et qu’on fait face à un ennemi complètement destabilisant et imprévu.

C’est sûrement le film le plus dépouillé de Kubrick que j’ai vu. Il y a la scène où Dallas et Joker passent la serpillère dans les toilettes, leur dialogue presque anodin où se joue pourtant le sort d’un de leur camarade, et cette autre scène, plus marquante encore, durant cette nuit bleue où Joker finit par se boucher les oreilles. Par des gestes simples, des dialogues anorexiques, tout est dit, comme si Kubrick appliquait une logique froide et implacable en délestant tout le superflu de nos comprtements humains pour toucher à l’essentiel.

Je finirai en disant que si je préfère la première partie du film, j’aime bien plus la conclusion de la seconde partie. En effet, la conclusion de la première a quelque chose de trop forcée, lorsque Vincent d’Onofrio nous fait une imitation du Jack Nicholson de Shining (sûrement voulue par Kubrick, bien que je n’en sois pas sûr). L’impact prévu est amoindri, il a quelque chose de démonstratif.

- toute proportion gardée. Faisant partie de la dernière génération de conscrits, je n’ai pu m’empêcher de penser au film, lors de mon service dans la “biffe”. Toutes les armées tirent sur les mêmes ficelles pour formater les recrues (volontaires ou non !) :

1. Uniformiser/dépersonnaliser : trois mm sur le dessus, 1 sur les côtés ; pas de nom sur les uniformes, au début. en colonne par un, etc…

2. Plonger l’individu dans un monde entièrement étranger, avec ses règles dont on finit par ne plus voir l’absurdité : les revues, etc…

3. Exalter le passé glorieux du régiment;

4. Inculquer un langage spécifique (dans la seconde partie du film, “jocker” parle couramment le militaire); en France, ça donnait “péchu”, “ras”, etc…

5. humilier les plus faibles.
6. donner des surnoms idiots
7. Emettre des sentences définitives du style : “réfléchir, c’est commencer à désobéir”

8. donner du pouvoir à des petits chefs, qui se prennent presque toujours au jeu. (il existe un sergent que j’aimerais croiser, un jour, mais sa cyrrhose a du l’achever)

9. Faire rêver des gosses (comme le photographe dans le film)

L’armée est la vraie matrice du totalitarisme.

Best war movie ever. Et mon prefere de Kubrick. A voir a tout prix.

La seconde partie du film se déroule au Viêtnam, et Kubrick nous présente le conflit à travers le prisme de la perception des marines, à présent endoctrinés. Es lohnt sich, dieses Verhoeven-Paket mit 4 DVD dem eigenem Archiv zuzuführen. Alle 4 Filme sind überzeugende Unterhaltung mit sozialkritischen Ansätzen und pikanten erotischen Elementen – die uns unsere holländischen Nachbarn gut charakterisieren.
Auch als Präsent für verschiedene Gelegenheiten bestens geeignet!
…schon die meisten wissen, ist eben “Der vierte Mann” geschnitten. Das Bild der Filme ist top, auch die Ausstattung und die Aufmachung mit Schuber und 10-seitigem Booklet weiß zu gefallen. Was mich stört, ist dass Eurovideo die Filme auch einzeln herausgegeben hat, mit Ausnahme von “Der vierte Mann”! Das Argument, dass die Box mit einem indizierten Film schwerer zu verkaufen wäre, lasse ich gelten, aber es ist extrem nachlässig den Film dann nicht zusätzlich noch uncut als Einzel-DVD anzubieten und so dem Sammler wenigstens die Möglichkeit zu geben, die uncut-Fassung in die Box zu integrieren und die Cut-Fassung müllgerecht zu entsorgen!
